OSHCstudents-International students undertaking formal studies in Australia, and their dependents (for example, spouses and children under 18 years old), must obtain OSHC. It includes cover for visits to the doctor, some hospital treatment, ambulance cover, and limited pharmaceuticals (medicines). After activating OSHC, you might wonder how to claim OSHC policy to pay for medical costs. Let’s continue reading to find your answer.
If you pay for medical costs on the spot or afterward, you may be eligible to claim back a portion or the entire amount of the invoice. There are a number of ways you can submit an OSHC claim, such as:
- Online via the provider’s website
- Through the ‘s mobile app
- Email claim
Please note that you might be asked to submit a copy of your invoice and/or receipt from your health practitioner or service provider and/or a copy of a completed medical certificate when making an OSHC claim.
You need to provide your Australian bank account details when you submit a claim (it cannot be an overseas bank account). Once your claim is processed, any refund will be paid into this account. Some providers also offer to send a cheque in the mail.
When you make a claim, you can either claim money back for treatment you’ve already paid for or claim money to pay for treatment. Processing times will vary depending on the nature of the claim.
