5 must-know terms before purchasing your OSHC policy

OSHCstudents-Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) is an essential requirement for international students studying in Australia. Before purchasing an OSHC policy, it’s important to understand some key terms to make an informed decision about your health insurance coverage. Here are five must-know terms.

Premium

The premium is the amount you pay for your OSHC coverage. It can vary based on factors like the duration of coverage, the level of coverage, and the insurance provider you choose. Understanding the premium helps you budget for your health insurance expenses.

Policy Coverage

This refers to what medical services and treatments are included in your OSHC policy. It’s crucial to review the coverage details to know which healthcare services, such as hospitalization, doctor visits, prescription medications, and ambulance services, are covered by your policy.

Waiting Periods

A waiting period is the period of time you need to wait after purchasing your OSHC policy before you can make a claim for certain medical services. Different policies might have varying waiting periods for different services, such as pre-existing conditions or maternity care. Being aware of waiting periods ensures you know when your coverage becomes effective.

Direct billing

Direct billing network includes local doctors (GPs) and specialists who submit your claims to insurance providers directly. The insurance providers organize payment to be made directly to them, to give you a seamless electronic process which means you don’t have to fill out paperwork to have your claim processed.

Pre-existing conditions

A person has a pre-existing condition if, in the opinion of a medical practitioner appointed by your health insurer, you had signs or symptoms of an illness or condition, at any time in the six months before you took out your policy (ending on the day you took it out).

I trust Allianz Care since it is one of the largest insurance companies in Australia, with the medical centres where I only have to pay for what is left from insurance support. (no need to claim later). Besides, those centres are located at the centre of the city, close to schools. Very convenient, right? Credits to Allianz Care for providing reliable medical centres for health check and treatments.

I’ve been living with homestay family for 2 years. I’m now 19, I can move out but I don’t want to leave my host, who has become my family. It feels like I’ve met my second family. Thanks OSHCstudents for sending me to this homestay!

I realised how important insurance was when I started living in Australia. There I switched to using Allianz Care instead of the previous service. Allianz Care is extraordinarily good in its consulting service and customer care. I’ve learned a lot about Australian health care, also I was consulted with mental issues and how to live a healthy lifestyle. I am very happy now.

Thanks to Allianz Care, every time I claimed my medical receipts it processed much more quickly and easily than I expected. I was initially a bit concerned since Allianz Care is more expensive than other insurance companies, but now I can ensure that it is totally worth the money.
